UTILITY LOCATING

SA Underground utilise advanced electromagnetic detection, ground-penetrating radar and other cutting-edge techniques to accurately identify the location of underground utilities, such as power, gas pipelines, water mains and communication cables.

NON DESTRUCTIVE DIGGING (NDD) / HYDRO EXCAVATION

In addition to our locating services we also offer hydro excavation (NDD) to safely expose and confirm the depth/location of underground utilities.

NDD is a safe alternative to traditional excavation methods as it minimises potential damage to underground utilities and services.

Our locators work to the Australian standard AS5488.1:2022 classification of subsurface utility information. The one exception is the use of DIT colours. SA Underground can provide a detailed photo report indicating the location, depth and quality level of each utility. This helps prevent accidental damage and ensures the safety of your excavation or construction project.

OUR TECHNOLOGIES

At SA Underground we use multiple utility locating devices to ensure we can accurately locate and map all known and unknown services on your next project, whether it be for design or excavation. Some of these technologies include;

Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) Locating

Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) Locating

Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) Locating

Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) is the most widely used technology for locating buried services and is very effective in most soil types and conditions. With (EMI) Technology, we can locate and trace conductive utilities. This method uses a transmitter to transmit an alternating current to the pipe or cable underground, then a receiver is used to analyse that transmitted signal and mark in a depth and location.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)

Electromagnetic Induction (EMI) Locating

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a nonintrusive geophysical method that uses radar pulses to help locate both conductive and non-conductive services underground such as poly gas mains and pvc water mains. This technology can also be used to help detect underground storage tanks and voids.

SONDE / RODDER

Radio sonde locating is another technique used to locate non-metallic services. This method uses a small transmitter attached to the end of a fibreglass rod that is moved through the service. As it moves along, we can mark its location and depth precisely. It is especially useful for locating blocked utilities.
